Located in North East Florida, Dead Low Fishing Charters with Capt. Carson Kent is more than catching inshore gamefish. I strive to give my clients an experience they can remember and learn from. Our fishery changes month by month, and I want to educate clients on how to fish for any native inshore gamefish during any time of the year.
I cater to ALL experience levels. From first timers to hardcore fly anglers, I will be sure you have the experience of a lifetime while on the water with me chasing our prized inshore species. We use a wide variety of methods; Fly fishing, lures, and live/dead bait. We target Redfish, Tarpon, Snook, Flounder, and Speckled Trout. Snook and tarpon are seasonal, being targeted in the warmer months about half of the year. Redfish, Trout, and Flounder on the other hand, are targeted year round.
I am one of a handful of talented guides with Historic Coast Outfitters, a group of guides making a change in the fishing industry.
This is one of my favorite forms of fishing. Here in North East Florida, we have plentiful tidal marshes, which provide world class skinny water flats fishing. Our low tides provide excellent opportunities for sight casting redfish. As water drains from the muddy bottomed creeks, the fish are forced to feed as shallow as possible, often swimming in water shallower than the fish are tall. This is known as "backing" or "belly crawling". We can throw live bait, lures, and even flies at these feeding fish. I am always outfitted with high end light tackle to be able to make accurate casts and safely catch the fish. These trips are available year-round.
Every year, between the months of June and August, our inlets and coastlines become a stopping ground for large schools of pogies. Tarpon follow the dense schools all up and down the beach feeding heavily on them. More often than not, you will witness a tarpon actually eating your bait right in front of you. Although we are blessed with juvi tarpon year round, these migratory fish on the beach range from 50 pounds to 200 pounds. We use heavy gear for them to get them in quickly and safely to ensure a quick revive and healthy release. They will always put on a show when hooked, giving you the famous sight of them jumping clear out of the water many times each fight, along with drag screaming runs.
Night trips are for the serious angler looking to catch a trophy fish on artificial baits. Timing depends heavily on tides and moon phases. On these trips, we target massive redfish, and feeding tarpon (depending on time of year). I provide extra heavy gear that is proven to be up for the task. This is combat fishing at its finest. Heavy current and large fish means huge fights and long runs. That on top of the unbelievable strikes that occur often provide a humbling experience of man vs fish.
